Visiology 3.12: More Flexibility and Functionality Than Ever Before

On April 15, we released Visiology 3.12—a major update that brings together top user requests, enhancements to Self-Service ETL, new visualization features, and a significant leap toward AI-powered functionality. The focus is on advancing AI tools, improving data interaction flexibility, and expanding capabilities for analysts, administrators, and business users working with dashboards every day.
A New Level of AI Interaction
The platform now includes the AI Query tool, which generates SQL code from a natural language task description. Users simply describe what they want in plain language, and a connected LLM (locally hosted or via API) translates it into a ready-to-run SQL query. The AI Query feature is disabled by default and can be enabled manually.
Value Formatting Made Easy
Numeric and time values can now be formatted in just a few clicks—no additional transformations needed. Supported features include:

  • Rounding
  • Percentage display
  • Units of measurement
  • Thousands separators
  • Various date formats, including custom formats

Formatting can be applied at the dataset or widget level (widget settings take priority) and is preserved when exporting to Excel and CSV (except for custom formats).
Data Source Portability and Configuration
You can now transfer datasets between servers while preserving relationships, measures, structure, and SQL queries. Data itself is not transferred—table connections must be re-established on the new server manually.

It’s also possible to change the data source for tables, e.g., switching from a test Excel file to a production database via JDBC.
Role-Based Relationships (USERELATIONSHIP)
You can now define multiple relationships between tables, allowing different analytical contexts (e.g., order date vs. delivery date). Only one relationship is active by default; others can be activated temporarily using the USERELATIONSHIP function in DAX.
Improved Data Loading
The platform now supports bulk loading of multiple Excel files with identical structure into a single table. Files can be automatically updated from network folders.
New Self-Service ETL Functions
Long-awaited features are now available:

  • Group by with aggregation functions (sum, average, min, max, median, count, distinct count)
  • Append to merge tables or queries with the same structure
Advanced Data Interaction
Version 3.12 introduces enhanced widget interactions. The Filter widget now supports filtering based on values from related tables. The Pivot Table widget can now influence other dashboard elements—clicking a row, cell, or column triggers updates across widgets. Author-defined sorting is retained and visible to viewers.
Enhanced Visualizations
New customization options include:

  • A new KPI Indicator widget to display value, target, and trend
  • Hierarchical filters based on one or two related tables
  • Totals and subtotals in Pivot Tables with configurable display, text/background color, and formatting
  • Adjustable and hideable column widths
  • Icon-based conditional formatting for clearer data presentation
Export and Regulatory Reporting
A new Regulatory Report widget adds a download button to dashboards for ready-made reports. Export is now supported not only to Excel but also to CSV, with a default limit of 3 million rows (adjustable by the platform admin).
Expanded Access Management
New access control options:

  • Grant access to data sources within a workspace without sharing login credentials
  • Disable export and sort buttons for users with Viewer roles, offering more control over user interface and data interaction
  • Usability Improvements
  • Hide individual dashboard sheets from viewers—for example, during edits
  • The Designer button is now hidden for users without editing permissions
  • Transformations in Self-Service ETL are now independent of source tables—they can be deleted safely without losing settings
Administration Enhancements
Admins now have more configuration and security options, including:

  • Setting dark mode as the default theme
  • Custom launch paths (e.g., instead of /v3)
  • Support for alternative ports
